Holidays with Pets

One of the biggest problems with owning a pet is what to do with it when you want to take a holiday. As a pet owner you have a responsibility to your animal and the community - too many animals are dumped when this problem arises. Some choices are:
• Choose a smaller dog from the beginning; it is easier to control and transport, and more places will accept you taking a small dog with you when you take a holiday.
• Put the dog in a boarding kennel, but be sure you thoroughly check out the quality of care they provide.
• Get a house/dog sitter – a friend/relative might do this; but if not, there are professionals who will come in and feed or walk your animal as required. Being territorial, dogs may be less traumatised by your absence if they remain at home, than if they are put in a kennel.
• Stay in holiday accommodation that accepts dogs.
