Fish look great in a fish pond, and even more importantly they eat insects including unwanted mosquito larvae. Kids love them too! There’s nothing like watching fish surface to chase feed sprinkled on the waters surface.

The problem is that predators including birds and cats like to catch fish.

If your fish keep disappearing, you probably have a predator on the prowl. There are three things you can do:

  • Help the fish hide (provide rock ledges or caves –even a submerged pipe) and clear overhanging vegetation that can hide a predator’s advance.
  • Remove the predator (catch them, repel them, kill them- sometimes not necessarily an environmentally sound option).
  • Protect the fish – place wire over the pond.
