CARING FOR FURRY CHRISTMAS PRESENTS

Christmas is a time most people receive lots of gifts - some of which have legs and tails and need lots of attention. A lot of responsibility falls on the new owners, such as locating a good vet, ensuring the pet has the necessities in life (food, shelter and comfort) and having a strong commitment to look after it.

If you are given, or are giving, a Christmas pet take it to a vet for a full medical checkup. For dogs, make sure that the dog is vaccinated about 10 days before it is picked up from the dog breeders. Have this verified by obtaining the certification. Intestinal worming for dogs has to be done every 2 weeks until they are 3 months of age. Heartworm prevention is done regularly (e.g. each day or once a month) for the rest of its life. Both worming tablets can be purchased from your local vet clinic, or from specialist pet stores.
